Any dell. E310 or E510 are one of the best. Also, I am not sure if they still do this, but when you look for a computer on dell.com and customize it and open a new page and look up dell coupons on yahoo or google and might have some luck under $800. You might be able to find you a even a laptop. Good Luck I added below the website for the coupons. GOOD LUCK HOPE YOU FIND A GOOD ONE

I was recently in the market for a computer for study purposes, had no money, and grudgingly purchased a Dell for around $600 (I'm not a big fan of the Dell corporation in general). So far I've had no problems and would recommend it to anyone looking for a Windows-based computer. It seems to look and work much better than the low-end PC's I saw in Best Buy. (Dell only sells their laptops and desktops on the internet, by the way.)
However, if you can find yourself a Mac for the price you need, go for it! According to friends (some of whom actually work at Dell), you will find yourself with much less software problems!

It depends on what you want to use it for. Check out http://comprec.com to get computer specs based on intended use. Once you have specs you can shop around to get the best price.

Depends on what you are going to use it for.
Whether or not you want a laptop or desktop.
I would check best buy, circuit city and microcenter.
