I live in residence at university so I don't have a lot of room (but lots of shoes)...I bought this thing that hangs in my closet from the hanger rack. It has little shelf/cubby hole sort of things. There were designs with narrow cubbies, and one with larger sized cubbies, I opted for the larger one so I can get more than one pair of shoes in a spot.
I bought this from IKEA. Its pretty cheap but also good quality, and saves lots of space.
Hope this helps!

before each thing, once you've a pair of trainers that you've not worn in a 365 days, supply them away at a garments drop-off container. There are much round, and also you received't experience as undesirable because somebody else is getting your a lot-mandatory shoes! Then get a rack that holds shoes in rows on cabinets so that you will see that them truly. every time you position on a pair of trainers bypass it to the some distance left so that you will see that which of them you position on the most (those on the left) and which of them you do not want (those on the right).

My husband has a shoe rack that hangs over the closet door. It's great for keeping shoes where we won't trip on them!

We use shoe racks in our closets but no one seemed to use them for everyday shoes. The best thing that helps my house is we have a basket and rug by the front door....my youngest puts her shoes in the basket and we take ours off at the door. Keeps dirt out and they actually stay in one spot!

I have tried all of the above and I've found that a shoe rack has worked best for us. Try to find one with a level for each family member to use. If everyone has their own shelf you won't have to worry about someone else's dirty shoes being thrown on top of yours.

You can build some of these right into the closet while others you can hang either on the closet rod or perhaps on the back of the door. You can also visit: http://tiny.cc/Shoe-Storage
