This sort of problem is usually fixed by saving your The Sims 2 stuff that is in My Documents (burn it to disk or something or drop it into a new folder), then completely uninstalling the game and reinstalling.

Sounds like you've already tried a few things.

EA support has a questions and answers site that can help with installations. If the site does NOT help, just write to the Customer Support on "Contact Us". I've done this before and they are very helpful and nice. They can also tell you what you need to do to get a brand new fresh disk (the one that is damaged)

After your game installation is fixed, then drop the backup you have back into the same folder and you should be all set.

Good luck!

Hi!

Save your characters and houses (there is an option to do that after you enter the game ang left click on a house)

When you do this,

reinstall the game and reactivate your save games.

Good luck

p.s. if your cd is damaged, theres little to be done
