My daughter has a chinchilla and loves it. It is quiet, fluffy like a rabbit, not demanding, loves to roll around in one of those balls and they live a long time. Both chinchillas and parrots live many years so be prepared.

ONLY get a chinchilla if you are planning on keeping him/her INSIDE. Chinchillas do not like the outside and have a very long memory and can and will remember any abuse (any sort, even if you don't realize it) that happens. All in all though, they do make excellent pets.

Parrots are amazingly entertaining. Much more interaction. They also require a lot of attention
