Since they live on living plant material they are not coming into the kitchen to eat. They like cool areas so their skin doesn't dry out as quickly. Do you have A/C running during the night? The only other thing I can think of is sometimes they are attracted to the smell of certain types of dog food (usually dry food). Do you have dog food in your kitchen? If your answer is no to these then it's a mystery why they want in.

A possible solution is they usually will not cross over a strip of copper. Some of your better lawn and garden centers have copper tape you can put down by the door they are entering. If you can't find copper tape a thin strip of copper foil will work too.

Been there! My kitchen was clean too. Are you in a wood frame house on blocks? I was and there was a leak somewhere in the plumbing that kept the wood wet. Slugs like damp, cool places. They used to come in all the time at night! It was pretty gross. If I were you I'd look inside the floor cabinets that your sink is in and see if there is a damp area. I was renting and I guess none of the previous renters ever reported the leak and so the wood was fairly rotted and that's how they got in.

Put out a couple of saucers of beer. The slugs are lushes, they'll try to drink up, get bombed, fall in, drown. I heard this as a gardening tip on a CBS radio show once.

Best way to get rid of those nasty slimy creatures is to pour salt under any of the doorways that you have in your kitchen. They won't come in. I used to have that problem, till I discovered how they shrivel up and well (without sounding like a animal-hater) DIE! :P

I don't know why they love your kitchen, but I do know that they hate salt. Maybe you could sprinkle salt around where you think they are coming in. Watch out that animals don't lick up all your salt, though.

I understand beer is slug bait. Do you keep beer around? Try using salt, diatomecious earth, or crystaline boric acid. They each may help control slugs.

They sneak in my kitchen too, not sure where from though, there must be a crack in the wall somewhere. They eat my cats leftover food.
