Nature knows best. We start to get wrinkly at this age, so nature fills out the wrinkles with more fat. Makes us look better in our latter years. Skinny old people look awful, all wrinkly and saggy.

You didn't mention if you drink alcohol or not. If so, then your caloric intake is much higher than you are counting with food. Additionally, a sedentary life (no exercise) will place the calories you do intake as stored weight rather than burning them. Additionally, if you eat much meat, then you intake lots of protein and some fat, even if the meat is lean. This will add weight. Dairy is animal fats and as such they are saturated. They will cause weight gain. Too much fruit is too much sugar, but if you do any physical activity, then it will burn some of it. Vegetables, including high fibre sources are best. Your protein should come from vegetable sources such as beans or soy. If all of the above does not bring results, consult a physician, as you have something else going on that you need to take care of.

I think it's mother nature's last ditch effort to keep you being `ready for pregnancy' even though you're going thru the change: it's idiotic but that's what I have come up with here and there during my own personal researches! I think it's down to plenty of exercise and watching what you eat. And the exercise must be regular and enough to balance the intake of your food levels. Other remedies could include `natural' forms of hormone replacement therapy.

All of our hormones are out of whack the only thing I can suggest is healthy eating and exercise. I too have a weight problem that has worsened since menopause. I lack one very important thing in weight loss, that is - motivation to exercise.
