my husbands OCD I think is a big cause in this, is there anything else I can get him addicted to so he gets off the music binge and goes to something else...

Welcome to my world! Call me when you have to buy a house with an extra bedroom to fit your husband's music collection. ;)
My husband's collection--as of 5 years ago when we moved--was over 3,000 single cds, plus two closets full of boxed sets. To say nothing of the many cases of dvds, vhs tapes, vinyl records and 4 shelves worth of books, and all the stuff he's accumulated since then. He took all his clothes out of his dresser (they stay in the laundry basket now) and stores books and cds in it.
Thankfully, Netflix has saved us from the growing dvd collection. Now we rent everything on Netflix first, and he only buys those things that he considers "musts." Because of Netflix's unlimited rentals, there aren't that many of those anymore. He's comforted just knowing he can put anything he wants to see multiple times at the top of our queue and keep it as long as he wants.
If I were you, I'd try to see if you can get your husband into dowloading music; that'll definitely save you some space. Hard drives are way cheaper than bigger houses.
Also, see if you can make certain that his music habit is taken solely from his discretionary income. Make sure that enough money is put into a joint account that is exclusively for household expenses, then let him have his own account with "mad money" that he can spend on all the cds or songs he wants. And then let it go.
This obsession really isn't a problem unless it's preventing you from reaching financial or other personal goals. There are way worse things he could be compulsive about.
If this is keeping you from reaching other financial goals, then perhaps the household account should just be in your name.....

Nope. I have about 7,000 CDs and I d not consider myself addicted. I just have ecclectic tastes in music, and I tend to collect all the main releases by the artists I like. There are also the collections like Now That s What I Call Music - I ve got all of the CDs of both the US and UK editions (UK one is better), as well as spin-off series like Now Dance and Now Annuals. A true addict would obsess about format, filing and equipment. I m fine with CD and MP3 and I listen on my computer and Zune. I don t even own a stereo.

He sounds like he might be addicted, although I have a friend who has more than that many cds and almost 700 dvds (last time I checked) and she's not addicted to them. He could just like music or like collecting things.

Buy him an iPod or a super large drive for his computer.
I had CDs I have only listened to once or twice because I would forget about them. I put them on my iPod and everything is there at my fingertips.
Maybe then you could enjoy the music together.
He may have a disorder, but if you have to have one, I would say this would be a nice one to have.

Yes I say he is. Not only that, he is wasting your money. Concidering you can download music to your c drive at CD quality for around >79 cents each song then burn your own CD it doesnt pay to buy all these CDs. When you buy the whole CD how many songs do you really like on it? TWO maby three. I'm sure you can find better things to spend your money on... Hit him over the head with a CD and tell him to wake up. Its all digital now.

it's either that or he's terribly rich. Cd's are like $15 a piece!! He may be a little on the addicted side though. That's a lot of cd's. It would be cool if he was a dj though. lol

if YOUR husband is, then so is mine.... but he started collecting for his addiction a long ago with albums, progressing to cassettes, then onward to cds& dvds. i wouldn't hazard a guess as to the quantity, as they are cased all over the house, in the media room, family room, bedroom, in both cars....the old lps are even still with us, as are all our cassettes which all 800 of them still proudly mounted on our wall. he even has a "led zepplin lizard" that holds the complete cd works of his favorite 70's band. you could say our home decor centers around music....to say the least. sooo, i guess there are worse things to do in life, but you're right, it is an expense....now for MY obssession...books!! all through the house as well! LOL!! we're just a coupla crazy collecters! so your husband is not alone!! take care...and make that man budget his cd $ spending!!

He has an addictive personality. I do too. Just have to watch out for what you become addicted to. It can be harmless or an out of control monster.
