Discrimination is when you are treated different because of your sex, race, sexual orientation etc. Have you asked your boss why you're not allowed to work part time? If the girls are doing exactly the same job as you, working part time, and you've requested part time and been refused, then that would be discrimination. If you're unsure about anything then take a visit to Citizen's advice bureau, they're excellent at all employment disputes.

You will just have to find a job with flexible hours. If they don't let you then you need a different job. Companies are only required to give you sick and materity leave. Everything else is at their discretion.

because they pay you! it amazes me since moving to canada from england how people in the UK dont realise how good they have it in regard to working conditions, here in canada you get 2 weeks holiday a year and hmmmm no real rights, stop moaning and get on it with! its like that most other countries outside the EU.

It largely depends on the firm you work for......I don't think anyone can insist to work certain times if it's not convenient to the firm

Only give them availibility of when you can work..
I did that at my 1st job and they were fine with it.
problem with that is that they may only give you a few hours.
