The operative molecules are called endocannabinoids, and they have receptors in the brain that, when activated, increase the appetite of the subject.

cor man i wish i knew cos thats the only thing id ever take out of my joints,i suffer bad with costochondritis and it helps(she says as she picks up the joint) i have been smokin it for years and always get the munchies god sake now i fancy a big bowl of sereal yum now see what you done...lol x

THC stimulates the appetite just as some drugs decrease the appetite. Plus food just tastes so good then!!!!

i don't know but i find alcohol gives people the munchies also.
