Ichabod Crane, a Yankee wanderer, arrives in Sleepy Hollow and becomes the new schoolmaster. He is attracted to Katrina Van Tassel and blissfully fantasizes about how she and her money can be his. Her suitor Brom Bones, the blacksmith, wants to scare him away and dresses up as the legendary Headless Horseman. During the prank, the real ghost appears and drives Ichabod off.

The story began when a very evil Hessian Solider lost his head between the American Revolutionary war and the war of 1812.
His head was stolen and used by an evil lady to murder her way into money and land. now this story was set in Terry town, New York. Now there is a toss up between Ichabod Crane being a teacher or a Doctor or Ichabod was both a Teacher and a Doctor.. The ghost went looking for his head and use a flaming pumpkin among other things to throw at people;.According to the story Ichabod did not follow local superstition challenged the ghost and was almost killed by the ghost. this is as short as I can make this story.......

It's a Washington Irving story.

Basically it is about a love triangle between Ichabod Crane, Brom Bones and some woman whose name I have forgotten, maybe Katrina.

Brom impersonates a headless Hessian mercenary who was killed in the Revolutionary War (or maybe the Seven Years War) and so scares off Ichabod and gets the girl.

It was originally a short story by Washington Irving called 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.' It could be on the internet since it is public domain. I'll check.

Dont remember the legend too much, but Sleepy Hollow is a real town in New York. Its right on the hudson river, near the tappan zee bridge. The cemetary & bridge are there. Good stuff, you should google it.
