Unfortunately, you're missing the point if you categorize it as just another teen movie (pun intended!). Of course, it has comedic elements, but it is essentially a drama.
It forces us to look past the labels put on people to discover true identities. High school is simply the easiest place to display clicks and groups. When would somebody like Brian chat with the likes of John Bender? Or else when would Andrew give Alice the time of day otherwise?
By being forced to see each other for whom they really are, they became friends, learned about themselves, and discovered to look past the convenient labels put on people.

You obviously don't get The Breakfast Club because you aren't a child of the 80s! As a teenager, it was a good, thought provoking movie. I don't enjoy it so much now, but that's because I'm older. People these days are spoilt with too many big budget films with too little storyline and integrity.
PS Porky's is soooo not in the same category, if you stop trying to compare The Breakfast Club to other movies, you might enjoy it more.

"Dazed and Confused" is a great movie, but I haven't seen the others you like better.
However, I freaking LOVE "The Breakfast Club"! It's really one of my favorite movies, and I like it better than the other two John Hughes teen movies in that trilogy ("Sweet Sixteen" and "Pretty in Pink").
You should rent the uncut version, because they cut out a lot of the dialogue in the TV version. Maybe you just like teen comedies more, because "The Breakfast Club" is really more a drama with comedic elements.

The movies you mention are not even comparable since they are not in the same genre. The Breakfast Club isn't a comedy teenage goof-off movie, it is a character study that gets to the common denominator, that everyone has a trial growing up and no matter their origins, all kids are basically the same and they all deserve respect and compassion.

I agree with you as far as the "Breakfast Club" is too over-rated. I was in high school at that time and I thought then and even now that the movie is okay. I do love John Hughes, however, and for an adult to create such popular child and teenage movies is remarkable to me.

I thought that The Breakfast Club was a very good movie. It comes on TV a lot because all TV is, is re-runs. It kind of sends a message out that you shouldn't judge a person without getting to know them first.

I LOVE The Breakfast Club. It's always a good movie to watch.
It has been coming onto TV a lot, but that doesn't make it bad or anything.
Dazed and Confused is alright, too...

The Breakfast Club was great for that time period,, just like black and white horror flicks were great when that's all they had.
I think it was a great representation of that time.. I am a true child of the 80's soo of course I love it!!!
