Maui is almost two different places. The northern end Lahina, Kapalua you will have rain just about every afternoon--warm light rain. It cools you off as you lie on the beach. In the South Wailea it doesn't rain so much. In Lahina, there's shopping Check out Whaler's Village and the Honoloa Surf company. Roy's is excellent food. Take half the clothes you think you'll need and two swim suits. You can rent snorkel gear just about everywhere and local dive shops can direct you to the viewing, but just about any beach will have beautiful fish to float around and see. Skip the tour boat dives...too expensive and too many people. Travel up the volcano to Makawao, a great artist retreat small village town of great views and galleries. I have a number of glass pieces from the glass blower up there. Check out Sherry Reeve's studio (link below gives address). Relax while soaking up the tropical sun!

I was just there in May--it's gorgeous!!!
We were there for 6 nights and honestly most of our time was relaxing on the beach.
We did the "Road to Hana" - many waterfalls and it's beautiful. I personally like road trips, so the fact that theres over 500 turns within a 30 mile radius didn't phase me, however others in the car diddn't take to it too well. The road trip has many stops, all reletively short hikes to see waterfalls and I'd definetly pick up a copy of Maui Revealed--this will give you, down to the exact mile (at mile marker 4.6 etc), where to pull off to see such n such...Mile markers are on the road, but you'll want to make sure to set the car spedometer when it begins at 0. We made a point of stopping at all the major waterfalls and hiking to get as close as we could, the trip took us about 6 hours (including our pit stops). If your adventourous, do this! There is one waterfall, you'll get a perfect view of it from the road and YOU CAN hike down to it-we have pictures of us where we're no more than 15 ft away from the falls, standing on pretty slippery rocks. On that particular waterfall, a word to the wise, it's much easier to climb up and down if you cross the road and go down and under the bridge and cut across to the other side under the bridge-we only figured that out on our way back up :)
We stayed in Lahaina, the beach we were at was not the greatest, so we spent a day at different beahes in the area. By far the nicest one we went too was Big Beach which is near or in Kihei. Near Lahaina, the best beach was Kanapali (spelling?).
Also, in Lahaina is Front Street, it's literally a serious of souveignor shops--tons of them!! and the Mall in Lahaina with one or two exceptions is no different. Although the mall does offer a free hula show daily, at 1 o'clock, unless it's changed recently.
There really isn't a nightlife, unless you count the hard rock cafe.
p.s. don't mind the spellig (spell check isn't working and I don't know why i'm online right now answering questions... time for sleep!

I have a home with my husband out there. It is amazing,go to Lahaina for shopping and the docks where all the hotels are is where you can get the sunset cruises, undersea submarines, dolphin/whale watching tours, ect. At all the hotels on that strip there are alot of activities. The beaches are all amazing. If you want go to Maui real estate.net they have a great tour attraction website at the top of the page for activities and also a beach cam so you can see the beach 24 hours a day! If you need anymore help IM me. Try Cheeseburger in Paradise that place is so amazing and the views are breath taking also go up to Haleakula volcano! It goes up to the top with winding roads to like 10,400 feet you are above the clouds but bring a jacket. You can also bike ride down it with a tour! You will have plenty to do. Don't miss the sunsets, everyone stops on the side of the road and people play conch shell music to the sun it is so beautiful! Aloha!

Maui is the best, there are so many great beaches...not a lot of night life. There are lots of great restaurants,t oo. The best advice I can give you is to pick upa copy of "Maui Revealed" It's at Amazon for 10 bucks...it's the best, it'll tell you everything about the island and what to see and what's not worth the effort!
Have fun!
P.S. You can't see Pearl Harbor unless you take a trip to Oahu... :)
