talent, ie; managers going round to schools, colleges, and training grounds to sign up and give younger players a chance and not pay them so much. If they did this, I wonder how many would still be signing because there are so many talented players out there and it would probably get the youngsters of the streets and give them an incentive.

There will never be a day when everyone decides to pay them less. Because there will ALWAYS be one team that will pay loads and they would end up with all the good players. The teams have the money so they have no reason to pay them less.

As for wags, i have no opinion. They are the same as any other sucessful peoples partners.

And your idea of managers going to schools, there are already loads of scouts that go to watch teenage football games and they set up trials.

Going to schools would be a waste of time because all the really good kids will be a member of a local team anyway, and the scouts would see them at trials anyway.

Football teams dont want troubled 'youngsters off the streets', they want focused hardworking talented healthy people who are already close to being what they want them to be.

Its a business not a charity and so far the business model goes, it works so I cant see it changing anytime soon.

Yes I understand what you are saying, that is how Becks got started.

Unfortunately the game of football is such big business these days it would seem that managers prefer to buy players from abroad rather than give home grown talent a fair crack of the whip.

The good old days of football are long gone and it is a whole new ball game these days ...sorry about the pun.

Can't really blame the footballers and WAGS for the big money they earn can we?

let the wags be. Footballers have the right to choose who they go out with. ****, legs, brains or love, they picked them to date. Gold-diggers exists, yes, so do good looking girls, with a personality, who meet a celeb' footballer and it works. so what if she worked as a road sweeper before and two weeks later she's at the world cup hotel. Footballers are a different matter. They must have skill to be in the top pay slot. I take nothing away from them. But, how long does a nurse train for to be qualified ? they save lives. A botanist, i think, trains longer than a doctor to be qualified, do they earn the same as a footballer? Entertainment based jobs demand mega wages. why? because passion for something is what we live for. Doesn't make it right, but that's how it is.

I think that they are their own worst enemies - they spend 'loudly' and frivolously and this is hard for people who actually have to work very hard for little pay to cope with. Yes, it may be envy to a point but it is still obsene to think that they earn so much for doing what many people regard as a hobby! (I speak as the mother of a professional sportsman - who doesn't earn a fraction of a footballer's wage). I do realise that they have a comparatively short working life as footballers but what career opportunities they have when they retire from the game! They also earn far more that most people do in a whole lifetime during that short time playing.

Instead of makng a show of Beckham, why don't we have a few games organised so that players are assessed and they actually have to earn their place on the England squad? Why do incapable young lads earn mega money for having no talent???
When can we appoint a decent manager...Big Stan would be better than this excuse of Sven's best mate we have now! What can we do?

well, sounds like a great idea

maybe you can pursue that as your career and become rich and famous

get a business degree, get some backers, start your own league

if people like to watch your league, then you will be rich and famous and you would accomplish the social goals you described in your question

current league operators and owners must believe that the way they are doing it will be more interesting to fans and get more viewers, but they could be wrong

certainly they have the right to try it their way if they want
its there money invested, their operation, etc

you have the right to try it your way
it could be really cool, lots of people would rather watch more new talent instead of a few highly paid prema-donnas

I will watch with interest
What will you call your league?

I think soccer is an overhyped bubble just waiting to burst. One bad European cup or World cup should do it. What's the incentive to become a doctor or teacher when monosyllabic yobs get paid £50000 a week to kick a ball about and get done for drink-driving?

so called superstars are generally media created and as such it is the press who decide who is going to progress far beyond what there talent should dictate. As far as the wags are concerned I don't know of anyone who actually cares about them except to laugh at them
