I started my period August 24 (my cycles can be anywhere between 28-32 days long). I have been taking my BBT every day at 5am... and my temperature does not get any higher than 97.6 (before ovulation). However this morning it said 97.9... and when I took it again about an hour later (after relaxing of course) it said 97.4 then a few hours later 97.2. I did not drink anything between 5-11am (I took my last temp at 11)... so I am thinking that it was because I was underneath the blankets and my body was a little warmer than usual. I am pretty sure that I have not ovulated just yet... at least I hope that I have not. What does this mean when your temp is high in the morning and drops as the day progresses? Also... which temperature should I write down... the 97.9 or 97.2?

I have been taking my temperature every day at the same time... before I get up to do anything (including turn off my alarm clock). I just thought that it was unusually high considering that I am not supposed to ovulate just yet (supposed in about 2-4 days from now). I am assuming that if my BBT goes back under 97.6... then I have not yet ovulated and my body was a little warm from the blanket covering me last night...

It's important to try to take your temp at the same time everyday. Not everyone wakes up at the same time everyday, so just take it as soon as you wake up - but before you even sit up. I would use the first temp you took today, the 97.9 because it's consistent with the time you normally take your temp. It sounds like you are beginning ovulation though. They say your temp should rise about 0.5 degrees, but if your temps have always been 97.6 and today it's 97.9, then it's a good indication that you are ovulating. You can chart your bbt for free at fertilityfriend.com. It's a great web-site. You can enter in other data as well, like your cervical fluid, any medications you might be taking, etc... It will tell you if/when you are ovulating based on the info you enter. It will also keep your monthly charts, so you can go back and review previous charts. I know nobody wants to think about charting every month - we want this to be the month we conceive, but I charted for 8 months until I conceived my daughter. We are ttc again, so going back to the chart I conceived in is a good reference for me. That was 2 years ago, and my charts are still there. You can also get an ovulation kit and test today. You can test anytime of day. I used the Clear Blue Easy Kit (less than $20 for 7 tests at Target). I used it for the first time this month and it was consistent with my bbt. Good luck!!

Okay it's a little confusing when you start but there are a few rules that you HAVE TO FOLLOW in order to be successful.

#1 - Take your temp as soon as you wake up (before doing ANYTHING, including going to the bathroom)

#2 - Take your temp at the same time everyday

#3 - ONLY TAKE YOUR TEMP ONCE A DAY. I know it's hard but only the first one counts anyway so taking it more then once is wasting your time.

#4 - Join an online site like fertilityfriend.com This will help to keep track of your temps

Now, you arent ovlating yet because your temp would drop (drastically) and then it would rise. Once you see that your temp has risen, you have already ovulated. Its kinda important to join an online ovulation site because it will be so much easier to keep track of.

In my opinion you should mark the 97.9 and continue taking your temp once a day. Oh and if you want more acurate temps you should try vaginal temping. Because no matter how many blackets you are under, your internal temp will remain the same. Me and my husband got pregnant the first month of charting, temping and using opk's. Good luck to you!

Record the 97.9. You are only supposed to record your first morning temperature at the same time every day, so the other temperatures could throw off your reading. It is very possible that you are ovulating today or will tomorrow, given your normal cycle length. If you are trying to get pregnant, why not do your trying just in case!
