I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. Several months ago I started having (random) no start problems. I tried to start it, it started, then died right down. I started it again, it started, then died right down, again -- then it wouldn't even try to start (like it was a dead battery "but wasn't"). After sitting for 20 - 30 minutes -- the van would start and run fine and would continue to start up fine for several weeks. Now, several times a week -- the van decides when it doesn't want to start, but letting it sit for 20 - 30 minutes doesn't work anymore. I have to wait overnight and the next day - go out and it starts ?? It's been put on a computer and it said it was the EGR valve. It was replaced and still at random it won't start and has to "sit". Ever seen this problem on the Caravan's ? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

this is going to sound stupid ..but..do you have 2 different keys for that van? Is one grey and one black..If you use the black valet key the vehicle will start and then die out..

I have seen it happen

May be an ignition module going south. Had this same problem on a Dodge Daytona years ago. Damn thing would never do it at the service dept, left it in service overnight later that week and, behold! The next morning it didn't start. Tech was finally able to pinpoint the electronic problem, was a 20 min. fix.

Sounds like a fuel problem? When you turn the key to the on position listen to see if you can hear a buzzing sound from under the van the pump will only run until the fuel pressure is up to snuff. If you don't hear the buzz try it a couple of times. It could be a bad ground to the fuel pump or even the pump is worn out and will occasionally work.

Sounds like a fuel problem. Is it always hot when it happens? If so check that the cold start system is working correctly. If it turns on when it should not it could be flooding the engine. Second have the fuel pressure checked when it happens maybe you have a worn out regulator that losses pressure when hot.

Hmmm, interesting. Seems to me that it could very much be that dreaded computer in there. But have your other parts checked first, like ignition coil, and distributor, and other sensors that relate to it running right. Good luck.

IF IT has a Distributor - the magnetic pick-up is bad - OR Hall Effect Unit !
