I couldn't pick just one, which I know is a cop-out, but there are soooo many great ones, for so many different reasons.
I love The Clash, for their passion and stylistic diversity. From one album to the next, they were always exploring and pushing the boundaries of what "punk" was, much to the dismay of many. They were one of the first rock bands to incorporate reggae and hip-hop into their sound. A few essential tracks: "Career Opportunities," "London's Burning," "Safe European Home," "London Calling," "White Man in Hammersmith Palais," "Rock the Casbah."
I love the Velvet Underground, whose sparse style influenced legions of musicians, for showing that the ugly truth can make beautiful music. "I'll Be Your Mirror," "Run Run Run," "Heroin," "Candy Says," "Pale Blue Eyes" are among my favorite tracks.
I love The Pogues, for the sheer joy that their Celtic-punk sound brings and the poetic quality of Shane MacGowan's lyrics. "If I Should Fall From Grace With God," "Bottle of Smoke," "Fairy Tale of New York," "Rainy Night in Soho," and "Sally MacLennane" are great choices.
But how can any list like this leave out other classic bands like The Beatles, The Kinks (rock and roll would not be same if not for that riff in "You Really Got Me"), The Rolling Stones or T. Rex (ok, they're hardly a band, it's really just Marc Bolan, but "Jeepster" is one of the best songs ever), among many others I'm sure I'm forgetting?

Best Song Ever- None, you get bored of songs after a while.
BTW Nirvana was good, but i don't think there the best. Good lyrics and music but i get really bored of them for some reason.
Best song by Nirvana has to be Polly though, great lyrics lmao.

Guns N' Roses, they embodied everything that rock was about, the attitude, the controversey, the music, need I go on?
I don't know about the best song ever, there are so many great songs out there, why choose? Listen to everything instead of just one great song!
