Don't pay attention to stupid and insensitive answers. People don't understand our plight. The severity and resiliance of Acne Scars depends on their depth, the type of acne and how long you have had the acne for. You can definitely minimize scars by NOT PICKING or POPPING the zits because that is the main cause of scars in acne vulgaris (common acne), it is true that some types of acne scar anyway but popping those makes things worse. You don't want that.

Also wait it out, wait for your acne to naturally clear up, but in the meantime! Drink lots of water and eat lots of fruits and vegetables to keep your skin healthy. Reduce or eliminate oily food. You may think I misread your question and I am telling how to prevent or cure acne. I am not, as if I knew I would not be faced with the problem myself. I am saying obviously the less acne you have, the less chance you have of scarring and thus, you minimize your scars.

Scars even from common and transient acne can be long lasting simply because the same area was affected again and again and was picked at it (tempting, believe me I know, I'm doing it as I type so I can show my face in school tommorow, but it actually makes it look redder and more inflamed/ and ofcourse for short term relief you risk paying the price with long term scars).

Do see your dermatologist or doctor about your acne. Whether it is severe or not they will still treat it. This can help a lot and this way the sooner you start the sooner you start climbing up on the medication ladder and sooner you can hope for your face to clear up. If it already has and its just the scars that bother you and you have had them for a good long time chances are the nature of the acne was such that the tissue has become such and age will not fade the scars completely. It does happen, scars results when the damange is so extensive or so deep that the regenerated cells themselves are damaged and take on the damaged appearance which manifest themselves scars.

Eventually ofcourse the acne should stop or atleast settle down after this period in your life is over. This is what I am told as severe acne runs in my family and all the adults now have clear skin. My sister infact had to get her skin peeled with chemicals every month until the terrible scars had been peeled away. I would not suggest doing this until the acne is gone. There are creams I hear, how good they are? I cannot say.

There are also other various cosmetic procedures, some involving the use of blue light, the use of fine crystals directed at the skin to even skin tone to eliminate 'pop marks' and eliminate or atleast greatly improve the apperance of scars. Peeling also fits loosely into this category. So there are various procedures possible and they do not come under insurance or free health care depending on what country you are in, but ofcourse once it gets to a certain point with acne and it has scarred and (I have a bad tendancy to scar anyway as many people do, even from the smallest of cuts or infections)/ then more severe measures such as cosmetic procedures need to be done (If the acne/ (scars) indeed bothers you enough.

Good Luck

I also have acne scars, and it's not from pooping them mr. big! You get the scars because the pimple is not just on the top layer of skin, it came from way down in there. For me, i just live with it. I wear make-up to work and school, and I just don't really care. But I do know there are some medical things that can be done. One of I'm not sure the real name, but I call it sand papering. It takes off the layers of skin, after a few visits it makes the skin even. Anything will be expensive, but ask a dermatologist if there is anything over the counter.

Treatments Of Acne Scars

Acne scars leave their mark not only on the skin but also on the persons' psyche. With rapid developments in dermatology, treating acne scars is becoming easier. Consult your dermatologist about the best treatment for your acne scars. The choice will depend upon your medical history, the type of scar and the treatments available for that type of scarring. Some treatments are cheaper but may not give the best results. The choice therefore also depends on your budget and the kind of results you desire. Read below for the kinds of treatments available for acne scars.

Dermabrasion:
This is considered one of the most effective treatments for acne scars. In this procedure, the doctor uses a local anesthetic or freezes the skin and then uses a high-speed rotary abrader to remove unwanted surface skin. As the skin heals, it shows a brighter appearance. This procedure may remove superficial scars totally and reduce deeper scars.

Chemical Peeling:
Depending on the scar, the doctor applies a mild chemical peel on the affected skin. This slowly peels away the old skin and fresh skin surfaces. Mild scars can be treated with chemical peels.

Laser Therapy:
Different lasers are used by the doctors to give a new shape to the scarred skin by recontouring the scars. The high burst of laser may make the skin red for some time.

Soft Tissue Filling:
Collagen, which may be bovine in source or the patients' own, may be injected below the scar to lift the skin and give it a smooth appearance. As the injected collagen gets absorbed in the body over a period, further treatments may be needed after about six months. Similarly fat may be injected below deep scars for giving a skin lift. Similar to collagen filling, fat injections may need to be repeated after some months. Your doctor will advise you about that.

Skin Surgery:
Skin may have to be surgically corrected with grafting or other procedures to remove some scars.

Microdermabrasion:
In this procedure. very tiny aluminum oxide crystals are passed through a vacuum tube to scrape the surface of the skin. This procedure may have to be repeated many times. It gives a fresh look to the skin by scraping. Very mild scarring can be treated with microdermabrasion.

Note:
For people who have the tendency to form keloids, no surgical method can be used. If one develops keloid with acne injury, more keloids will be formed by further surgery. Steroid injections may be used to treat keloids. In some cases, topical retinoic acid is applied directly on the keloids.
