I have heard people say they have too much conscience and it is becoming a burden because it jeopardises their chance of succeeding at the work place or generally in life. Do you agree?

Conscience is the way in which humans are able to interact with one another. Conscience is what enabled humans to create civilisation[s]. Having a conscience means having a care for others and being aware that something we may do today, which might hurt others, will, undoubtedly return to explode in our face.

If promotion at work requires that you sacrifice that which makes you human, then the price of advancement in that company is too great, trust me.

If the further up you go, the less conscience you have, then that means to advance to the top you might have to adopt the sort of mindset that accepts, say, robbery or theft or even assault, as normal.

Now what use would it be for you to become a criminal to rise to the top?

I find that I have too much conscience to succeed like some of the people I work with. Some of them lie through their teeth to get what they want.

Conscience is a terrible, terrible burden and so heavy to carry around. But I'd rather bear the load than be without it.

Yes. Sadly, in our greed 'n grab society most successful people (especially those in business) are ruthless and ride roughshod over others at sometime in their career to achieve their ambition.

If you are by nature a more gentler type, you won't have a leg to stand on against these people. They are cut-throat and care not for anyone but their own self-interest. Unfortunately, their values are the foundations of our society and they make the rules for the rest of us. They expect everyone to be like them.

I would say find a work environment more suitable to your temperament - if you can. Or go join a religious order of some kind.

I don't think I have a conscience. I try to do the right thing as I think it should be, but I feel no remorse if I bring harm of any kind... I just shrug it off and move on.

Its a strange feeling, a feeling of emptiness. I know I should feel bad but I don't.

I don't know if its related but I'm also very good at lying.

I'm not religious, but a friend of mine defined conscience as the voice of God within us. I consider it to be our better, higher selves telling us how we'd like to be treated. I've lost jobs, opportunities, and even a woman I loved because of my conscience. But was it worth it? Probably NOT!!!!!

There is a saying "conscience makes poor feet" But that is for business. It stops you from hurting people. Personally it can be your best friend
