Your going to have more options using the LAN. Of course nowadays your internet speed is often rated much higher then what you'll actually get and also depends on the type of service you get, who your ISP is, and of course site/web traffic. Today a dial up connection is rated at 56K and is considered old and SSSLLLOOOWWW... DSL the speed will depend on how close to a node you are but isn't effected by traffic. Cable modems give you greater speeds, however internet traffic can slow them down. So far in my experience the cable modem is what I've had the most success with. Now to connect to these different modems I would always use a LAN connection. It's pretty cheap and easy nowadays to create an internal network that runs on Gigabit speeds so that's the way I'd go.

I would prefer the LAN card of all your options. Most Internet is WELL below the 100 MBps of a LAN card. I'd stick with USB 2.0 if you use USB. It's much faster than 1.1.

Yes. As both the lan cable and the USB are faster than the speed of the modem, it makes no difference which you use which kind of cable you use. The speed will be the same.

to let u know really, it doesnt depend on input to comp (usb or lan).. it depends at what time u access the net n at that time how many ppl r accessing the server of ur ISP.. the more the no of ppl, speed goes on decreasing until n unless u take a leased line....
it also depends on how many ppl r accessing the server of a particular website... say 4 now, yahoo server as i m on yahoo answers..
so, the type of connection of the comp doesnt really matter

I have tried the ethernet cable and the usb. I really feel that the usb is the fastest, especially if you are using cable for your isp. I have noticed that if you use dsl, it doesn't really matter which one you use as it is quite a bit slower than cable.

Cat5 network cable is faster than USB. USB was designed for peripherals not internet reception.
