I heard that the first charge must be longer than usual ones. Is that true?

If your phone is partially charged when you receive it you should allow it to go completely dead before you charge it. Then you charge it completely till it's fully charged (a message will appear on the screen telling you when this has happened). You can then use it and charge it normally as per the instructions.

If you try to use it before it is fully charged (even while it is still plugged into the charger) it will never fully charge again during the lifespan of the phone. It will operate on reduced power and need charging more frequently, before not charging again as it reaches the end of its useful life. Therefore it will have a shorter lifespan than it should.

Hope this helps.

I bought just like that about 3 weeks ago, I didnt have to wait 12 hours, mine was almost full when i got it from cingular, it had like 75% usage left on it, i just went home and charged it for an hour and it was fine.

yes it's true, but not 12 hrs, usually a sony phony charges in like 3-4 hrs, so for the first time charge it 5-6.5 hrs.and then use it until the battery drains out compltely and recharge it for like 5 hrs again and then you can recharge whenever you want , but to conserve the battery dont recharge every day , wait until the battery is like 85-100% drained out.

The Sony Ericsson I used to have only took an hour for a complete charge... whether it was the first or not.

I have a Sony Ericsson phone also. Mine only said 8 hours, but it didn't take that long. If your phone is off, it will tell you when it is fully charged.
