because they were hypocrites,in fact the majority of people were worse of under a republic,the people who owned the slaves were not going to let those people have freedom as it meant that they would have to pay for workers and it was all about greed,its one of many reasons why the rich wanted a revolution as they new that britain was trying to pass a law in parliament to ban it which came 60 years later,but as they say everone is equal but some are more equal than others,

The abolition of slavery was not on the agenda for the Rebels. Just to point out, slavery was not the cause of the Civil War. At the start of the war, many southern states of the Union had slavery. Only after the South began looking for support from across the Atlantic did the North make slavery an issue. This was to dissuade others from joining the south. Fighting with the south meant fighting for slavery. In the Revolution, slaves were used as fighters, some were granted freedom for fighting but too many men made too much money from slavery to abolish it.
