I can handle the slow dances, but how do you dance to the pop songs?

Don't be so worried about looking good. Concentrate on "feeling" good. Let yourself enjoy the moment and the people you are with. Listen to the beat and and move in a way that feels like a physical "echo" of it. Don't try to copy moves that you don't think you can pull off. If you feel nervous about the public aspect of dancing already, this is a sure way to head right into Embarrassment. I would suggest watching others for a while. If you see someone that really knows a lot of dance technique, ask them for some pointers. Just have FUN. That is the whole purpose of any good time.

I think pop is easier than slow... because slow dances ..you have to follow your partner and pop.. you are just on your own.. Just feel the music and move..there is NO right way to do it an NO ONE..is watching..believe me... People who dance are just enjoying music, feeling it and moving.. There are some people that are excellent dancers because they are born that way (with rhythm in their souls)..and others (most)...learn...it comes with time, but if you don't try..you will NEVER learn. Practice at home alone ...before you know it..you will be dancing away the night!! I think that people who dance at school dances have more fun... (you know that!!) . The kids that are just standing there watching...WISH THEY HAD THE GUTS!!... Which one are YOU..going to be?? GO FOR IT!!!! GOOD LUCK!!

The funny thing is that everyone can do their own thing and it's okay to do your own thing. Someone might even copy you. I know a man whose wife literally pulled him out onto the dance floor. He looked around and spent a minute observing what the others were doing and then decided that his martial arts training would serve him well in this pop dancing environment.

He proceeded to choreograph: High block, middle block, middle block, high block, middle block, low block, high block, high block, low block, low block, high block.... until his wife told him to just shut up and keep dancing....

yes, it looks like pop dancing... even though he was doing martial arts blocking moves.

Thought you might get a smile out of the story.

The point is... find something you can do to move to the music, no matter how repetitive, and it's yours. If someone copies you, take it as a compliment.

Dance however you feel, I'm shy about dancing so you can just do a simple dance like just move to the beat. Just watch some hip hop videos or anyother ones, practice in your room if you want just to get comfortable.

The sectret is not to keep your legs stiff. Bend your knees slightly. Then watch what other people are doing to the beat. They say swing your butt. Yeah, that's right. Just keep experimenting. Noone's really watching. Trust me, they are preoccupied with their own dancing. Maybe try it in your room first when noone's watching.

There's no certain steps you have to do. Just relax and be yourself. Don't worry about other people around you. Relax and move your body to the music. Do it at home for a little while to make yourself feel comfortable.
