Forgive and forget is the ideal - but we, human beings, often do not live up to the ideal, so let's keep trying.
Forgive is a very difficult thing to do, especially when people hurt and treat you badly. But maybe, you can put the situation in perspective. Is this person always bad to you? Hasn't this person also done many good things for you? Try to remember the good and forgive the "bad" and maybe the "bad" was not intentional, just a mistake.
Forget is also very difficult to do as well. But perhaps we can try not to dwell on it, not to keep rehashing and going over every detail that hurt us or where we felt badly about the treatment given to us. Perhaps, we can try to move on, leave the negativity and go forward with the positive, optimistic feelings.
Yes, forgive and forget, may be one of the most difficult things to do in this world with people full of human foibles. Maybe the best thing to remember is that we are all flawed human beings in an imperfect world and then we can forgive and forget, all that we do to each other.

So, are you only being nice so you can get "praise, memory of good acts" and to be considered more important? What is the purpose of good deeds? Is it for YOU or for them? If you never got any praise, would you cease to be nice?
Are humans capable of forgiving and forgetting? Yes, you have the right to forgive and forget, but you may not have the willingness to do so. You may WANT to hold a grudge, as payment for all those who abuse you, hurt you, cause you pain, and NEVER EVER notice the good deeds, you are about to quit doing.
You have two choices as I see it:
You can live your life by their rules, evil and hateful.
You can live your life by God's rules, serve others over self.

I have an aunt that I used to admire so much. I wanted to spend all my time with her. I called her every day. One day we had an argument and she really hurt my feelings a lot. I've forgiven her, but I can't forget.
I don't go to her house unless I have to. I never call unless I need something. Same thing with her coming to my house or calling me.
I just don't trust her. I don't want to get close to her again. I learned the truth about her.
I forgave, but I can't forget.

We can forgive, but can't forget 'cause we have memory. Forgiveness is something that we do for ourselves, in order to keep living without feeling guilty.

If you do good things expecting a pat in the shoulder you're wrong.
My advice is not to care about what people think or say, those ungrateful bastards will never be happy, no matter what you do.

People are capable; myself, I forgive, but I don't forget. Why? Because if it happens a 2nd time, then I make a big deal about it. My motto.....'go ahead, 1st one's free'.

i think forgiving is much easier than forgetting, unless of course, you have some sort of memory disorder.
