It's horriable what smokers put their kids though with all that smoke. Do they not know that it causes health problems or do parents simply don't care?

I think second-hand smoke is unfair to all the rest of us who don't smoke because it can be just as lethal to us as it is to those who choose to partake in that nasty habit. Kudos to all the cities, workplaces and businesses that are going smoke-free now!

I absolutely HATE it! I avoid it at all cost whenever I can. I will not stand near smoking people though they would not do me the courtesy because they really don't want you to mind that they smoke by you and even if you do they break out with an 'attitude" like you are in the wrong for addressing the issue!

Because it is a habit, that's really hard to break plus those that smoke want to, they are not to concerned if they smoke around their kids. There is an uncaringness attached to it plus people are well aware that it causes health problems but are powerless to stop because the habit is so strong or don't want to stop.

I am a smoker, and I do care, My daughter hates it. So I always make sure there is fresh air where ever I smoke. I find second hand smoke very irritating, I don't like it. It chokes me down. So I can imagine what is it like to the non smoker. Cigarettes are very addictive, so if you don't smoke don't start. I quit a couple of times, and I felt a lot better. I plan to try to quit again, using nicoderm patches.

I believe that people should not smoke around others that do not. I know that secondhand smoke can be harmful to children, I have proof of it. I do not think that it is anyones right to say that they cant smoke though. Not all smokers smoke around their children or around others for that matter. It isnt really anyones business unless in directly affects you or yours.
Smokers that DO smoke around their children, however, most likely will not stop until they actually see the affect themselves.....and most will not.

Smoking is stupid. Smokers are stupid.
Smokers know that secondhand smoke causes health problems, but with their addiction and spineless inability to kick the addiction, concern for someone else's health isn't a priority.

Even moreso, think about "secondhand fire." Kills 800-1000 Americans, including kids, every year. Smoking is the biggest cause of home fires resulting in fatalities in the USA.

My mother never cared how her smoking affected me or my siblings. I don't smoke and never will but that doesn't mean that I might develop an upper respiratory illness because of her and others. My mom died from complications after surgery to remove lung cancer. She even said once that she might get cancer from smoking but she just couldn't and didn't want to stop.So I hate second hand smoke with a passion and I wish there was something that would help people not get addicted to cigarettes.

That is bogus info. The tobacco companies backed the wrong horse in a presidential election , so that party shopped around til the found "research" that agreed with their aims. Alcohol causes more disease and death, and costs the public ten times more than tobacco.

Second hand gum and snuff is more disgusting. Nice of you to be so politically correct, though.

I think this is an interesting issue, but your question only addresses one part of the debate.

Is LONG-TERM exposure to second-hand smoke bad- as children in a smoker's house? Almost certainly.

Is SHORT-TERM exposure bad- as in being in a restaraunt near a smoker? Probably no big deal.

They shouldn't smoke around their kids. Especially nowadays when people know second hand smoke is bad. Why do they do it???
