Changes a bit from year to year due to weather, but in general:

Aspen start turning at the higher altitudes in mid September. Then color moves down in altitude. Peak time is right around the end of September. By late October, most of the leaves in the mountains are gone.

Excellent places are near the town of Aspen, McClure Pass, and in between Telluride and Durango (Lizard Head Pass). Close to Denver are Kenosha Pass and Guanella Pass, which are pretty decent.

I live 30 minutes from Aspen - they havent quite started yet - I'd say first two weeks in Oct.

South of town on Independence Pass or at the Maroon Bells is the best place.

I think the first weeks of October. Go to the Northwest on Rabbit Ears Pass. It is so beautiful, trust me you won't regret it.
