No child is allowed to drop out until they are 16 and they need a parents permission.Challenged kids have different choices b/c to graduate you have to pass the sol tests.A lot of challenged kids will never be able to pass this test so it may be better for them to drop out.I pulled my challenged son out and homeschooled him.It was the "Best" thing for him.

Good question. I haven't come across this in my role as a school psychologist but I think I'll ask about it. I would suppose that it would depend on the age of the student (are they the same age as a general ed student who can choose to drop out?) and are they at the age of majority or has his/her parent retained legal guardianship?

I think special ed students go to school until they're 21. That might vary by state or province or whatever.
