On Hotel Circle in Mission Valley there are several hotels where you can find a room for under $100 a night. If you are looking for even cheeper, head a little further east. There is a Super 8 in the right off the 8 freeway in the college area that offers rooms for under $50 a night in non-peak times.

There's a nice Motel 6 in the hotel circle area...mission valley area. It's centrally located on Hwy. 8 a little east of Interstate 5.

the cheapest motels/hotels are motel 6's and motel 8's once it get to bigger names the price goes up. The further north you get in sandiego county the prices get just a little lower, think about where you need to go and how far it would be to drive in, like if your going to the wild animal park stay in north county if your going to sea world try old town area it might be cheaper,

If you go in Denny's they have a give-away Travel magazine in the lobby (I've seen it other places, too) that has coupons for hotels.

We've used it to get really nice hotels for the cost of the plain jane Motel 6. Look for ones that give you a continental breakfast, we figure that saves us at least $5 a person, too! You can call from your cell phone and see if they have openings.

Tourist season is over now. So you might be able to get some good deals! (Tourist season runs from Easter to Labor Day)

Good luck. This is a very expensive part of town. You would have to try east county such as El Cajon, Spring Valley, etc. Or try near the border of Mexico such as Chula Vista or Imperial Beach. Keep in mind that you will be in shady areas.

nowhere near san diego...lol, seriously if you find a cheap hotel in san diego, you wouldn't really want to sleep there as it would probably be hired out by the hour...

Come to think of it, you could probably find something really cheap in Tijijuana, Mexico...which is only 5 miles away from San Diego
