Tourist season is over now, (it runs from Easter to Labor Day) so you'd be looking at restaurants for locals. You might want to factor in your living expenses, so a cheaper place like Escondido or La Mesa. If you live close to where you work it'll cost less. La Mesa is also closer to SDSU, which is session now, so they probably are hiring around there.
