The best gripe water is made by woodward's. It is from India and can be found at Indian grocery stores or online. I used it with my son and it worked mircles. Its primary ingredients are sodium bicarbonate, water, sugar and dill. Other gripe water's are not the same. they have fennel, chamomile and ginger. They did not work like the woodward's brand. My son has seen a Pediatric GI specialist and he told me giving him the gripe from Woodward's is fine and has all natural ingredients and to use it if I want and feel it works. Well is really did, but you have to buy Woodward's. Good Luck...they will grow out of it. My son did about 3 weeks later after I bought the gripe water.

Those are two separate questions. The various things people have already stated, like Mylicon, Grip Water, home remedies, etc. can be used to address gas. However, colic is a different thing. A baby that has colic does not cry because he or she has gas. The cause of colic is unknown, but classic colic is typical described as unexplained crying in an otherwise healthy baby that lasts for one or more hours per day, practically every day, for the first several months of baby's life. Colic typically presents at 2-3 weeks of age and can abruptly stop at about 3 mos. of age. Things to do to soothe a colicy baby include swaddling, rythmic movement (swings, rocking, walking), holding baby against your chest facing out, shushing (making a loud shhhhhhhh sound practically in baby's ear). Another hallmark of a colicy baby is that the crying typically starts and ends around the same time each day. My daughter was colicy and you could practically set your watch by it. Outside of the colicy time, the baby is also typically happy and content, which was also exactly my experience. Anyway, long winded answer to your short question....Good luck!

OH now this is someone I feel bad for. I lived this $hit for 3 months. OK, honestly, soy formula extra watery with the gripe water and small amounts many times rather then one large feeding. If she/he takes 4 oz at a time, do 1/2 oz witha 5 minute wait in between. Find out what helps te child sleep. Some like motion, like driving in the car - I put on probably 10K miles on mine in 3 months driving the kid around just so there was peace in quiet. I wish you lots of luck and have patience. The child will out grow it soon enough.

My family had used this home remedy for generations, get a jar of carroway seeds (any grocery store will have them) boil them in a small saucepan until they turn whitish and the water is a light tanish / yellowish. Strain the seeds and put into baby's bottle let it cool until it's cool enough for the baby to drink. All 3 of my kids were colicky and it worked wonders on them (my whole family has used it for their kids as well and it's always worked) the baby like the sweet taste and it helps expell gas.

When my baby was real colicky my mother used to always give her chamomille hot tea with a little bit of corn syrup. That always did the trick. Just make sure it's not too hot just a little warm. Or you can try the usual Mylicon drops or Little Tummys. You can find either of those at any store.

I lived by Mylicon drops with both of my boys. My friend has tried both Gripe water and Mylicon and feels Mylicon works better for her daughter. You can get the Mylicon drops at any drug, grocery store, Target, etc., but feel free to by a generic brand. They work just as well and are much cheaper. The drops may be expensive, but they are worth it. If the drops don't work, it may be the formula (if your baby is on formula). We ended up having to switch our older son to soy.

A lot of this is by trial and error, but in general you want to avoid spicy and highly flavored foods, onions, garlic, that sort of thing. If your baby has trouble, remember what you ate, see if there is something "suspect" in it, and avoid it for a while and see. It goes without saying to avoid alcohol and nicotine also. Best wishes, I am so glad you are doing this for your baby. I breastfed for ten months, then got really sick with a GI bug, and used that time to quit, but she is now eight years old and has NEVER had an ear infection. She has been sick, had sinus infection, had pneumonia once, flu once, but no ear infection! I have never even heard of a child never having ear problems. I like to think that it was the breastfeeding, but chances are it had not much to do with it.....never know.

try Mylicon drops, also if you put a peppermint candy or real crushed peppermint leaf in a bottle with water that sometimes help. Kind of old fashioned, I think, but it works. Also, get a long sock, fill it with dried beans and microwave it for a few seconds, place it on the baby's belly. Laying her across your lap and patting her back is good too.

Well, for the gas, the mylicon or little tummy drops work REALLY well. You can buy those in wal-mart, usually by the adult's gas medicines.
l wasn't aware that anything worked for colicky babies.

I have a fussy little boy myself, but I have noticed a big difference this week after using Enfamil Gentlease and Dr. Brown's bottles. Both of those things are pretty pricey, but at this point, anything that helps is worth it. You can buy the Enfamil anywhere and I got my bottles from Babies R Us.
