If your husband is a Monty Python fan at all, he'll love it. It's more whimsical and silly than a lot of Broadway shows, but make no mistake, it's still a musical, and it pays homage to Broadway and all it involves.
It is very funny, the songs will have you rolling in the aisles (especially if you like the movie), and the costumes and sets are wonderful as high budget Broadway extravaganzas always are.
If you want to be more sure that you won't be throwing your money away, you should rent the movie and see if it's you and your husband's type of humor.

My fiance went to NYC and saw it last summer. He said it was the best show he had ever seen--and he has seen, been in, and done tech work for a good ton of shows! It is different from anything else, and he says the technical aspect alone is worth going for. The acting is phenomenal. If your husband likes Monty Python, then he'll LOVE this.

Its a version of the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail, done as a Broadway musical. Its fun if you like Monty Python style humor -- which includes musical numbers which are as much parodies of Broadway numbers as they are songs in their own right.
The test of whether you'd like this is whether you like Monty Python, rather than if you like Broadway shows.

C_Bar is spot on with his answer. Do yourself a favor though...if you like Monty Python...pick up the soundtrack...and have a listen, it'll let you hear what you're in store for. I haven't seen the show (I really really want to), but I have listened to the soundtrack a lot, and it's hilarious.

I saw it in Chicago, and it was hilarious. I don't like Broadway shows either, and I loved it because it pokes fun at the genre. Examples are "The song that goes like this" and the diva song towards the middle of the show.

If he is not a fan of Python, I would choose something else for you two to see. It's OK but very sophomoric and full of Python humor. Some people find that humor weird and not at all funny. It depends on taste.

Perfect choice for a non-theatre person.
Get the soundtrack, listen to it.
This will get him prepared.
