The easiest, non chemical way to do it is to buy a couple of large cannisters of plain old table salt.

Sprinkle it all over the carpet just like you would a carpet air freshner. Get it everywhere, and let it sit over night. The next morning, vaccuum like always, but make certain to clean out the vaccuum cannister or change the bag. Double bag up whatever you remove from the vaccuum, and take it out of the house.

Repeate this 2-3 days later, to get any flea's that might have hatched in the past few days. Again, repeate 2-3 days after that, and you should have gotten rid of them without too much trouble.

This is a chemical free way, which is not only cheaper, but better for the air you plan to breath. Bombing your house leaves chemicals on anything uncovered in your house. Like your food preparing area's!

Good luck!

I worked at a company one time and an exterminer came in every month. I asked him that very question, if fact I wanted him to come spray my home, but he told me that if I would use normal table salt sprinkled on the carpet let it stay awhile and vacumn it would be the best thing. It seems to work well and cost little. Also, the seven dust that you buy at lawn and garden centers can be sprinkled and vacumned. The reason being that fleas can live in the vacumn. They are tough little bugs. I also steam clean my carpets with a mixture of steamy water and flea killer that kills the eggs as well.

ugh fleas. so frustrating, i know.
try a Raid bug bomb. since it's gas it permeates everything and gets in the carpet fibers. also you might want to try steam cleaning the carpet with very soapy hot water. you can rent a steamer from home depot i think. oh and btw whatever you do, dont use anything from hartz. they're a total scam and all of their products are about as effective as water.
since you already have fleas living in your house there's a good chance they've laid a fair amount of eggs. so it will take a few tries to get rid of them cos as it is, you'll end up wiping out the living fleas only to have the next batch hatch a few days later.
it may seem damn near impossible and trust me, i know how you feel, but they can be exterminated. you just have to be patient.

I just went thru this with my pets. You have to vacuum like crazy and use a flea bomb to kill them all and keep them from coming back. just make sure you'll be away from home for like 6-8 hours.

Flea bomb. You can get them at your local pet store. The good thing about them is that they kill all the spiders and other insects lurking inside the house.

The best thing is a commercial product you can get from the vet. You spray it all over the carpets.
