Art is anything that produces a purely aesthetic effect on humans.

Design combines aspects of aesthetics with the practical considerations of performing a function. It is often speculated that the form of a design is aesthetic to the degree that it is completely in agreement with its function.

Video Games have so much graphic art and design its incredible.....a far cry from the days of old ATARI or Nintendo.....Art is a expression of ones view's ,feelings and emotions....it has endless possibilities to represent itself thru so many forms. Designs are complex detailed images or layouts to produce a object or subject such as a Building design.....some art can be introduced into the frame of building or concept...Video Games have both and are truly mufti-dimensional !!

Art is a single object, distinctive and self contained where design incorporates many "forms". So, yes, video games can be described as "Art" but the creation of the game would be described as "design"

A toilet seat to someone can be art, its in the eye of the beholder. So look up the definitions and Yes I would say video games in a sense are Art. The art work in some of them are awesome!

To me video games, in their totality, are not art. They are a product. Any product has components of art in them to make them attractive enough for us to open our wallets, as well as components of design which are required for functionality. Art is something that is created for the purpose of stimulating other peoples perceptions. Design is a mental task of insuring that whatever you are designing functions well for the purpose intended. Further, while video games have graphic "art" in them, one should consider if that art is there for its own sake, as a painting displayed on a wall is, to tempt us to think about what the painting represents or the message the artist was trying to make us aware of. The graphic art in a video game fails this test. It is there not for its own sake, not to stimulate our perceptions, but rather to support the functionality, or design, of the game product.

I would say, yes. If you've ever looked at the specials on some video games, like Ratchet & Clank, they show you the original sketches. It takes much artistic talent to make a video game. I would say anything that takes unique talent to create is art.

Art is what flows freely from your creativity without any predetermined guideline or ideas. Design is a concentrated effort of your focused ability to achieve a predetermine concept into reality.

Lots of important info can be found on Wikipedia... you might want to search "how to research homework" while you're there.
