sitting next to my grandpa, on the edge of his bed. He would show me all of his war medals, and coins from all over the world. He would tell me stories about life... i loved that man.
The other memory , is fishing with gpa...he used to tell me "honey, men like it when you can gut your own fish...." lol

Not exactly childhood, but falling in love.
Also, good times with friends. Memories of how things were - the toys, the old TV shows, etc. Snow days. Christmas gifts. The swimming pool. Staying up late on lazy summer nights. The shore! That hill that seemed like a mountain that I used to ride my bike down. Spending hours playing with GI Joes and Matchbox cars. Having so much free time! Hours went by much slower then. The last day of school! Beatles records on 45s. Penny candy at the newspaper store. Good Humor trucks. Birthdays. Trick or treating. Easter egg hunts.
The family gathered around the TV for a special. Or at the dinner table for Thanksgiving. Going to Howard Johnson's. Family trips.
The "highs" were higher and the "lows" were lower. But the past is great because you can "edit out" the bad stuff and remember the good!!!
I'm in my 40s - in NYC area. I keep revising this but I better stop now!

Boy on a Bridge:
As a boy I stood and watched the river flow below,
And saw the angler cast his line, but little did I know,
That when I aged, became a man, that I would thread the flood,
And as I fished, got what I wished, and saw the child above.
A childhood dream of what will be, can truly be,
For if your childish wish is strong, yes, one day you will see,
The magic of that moment when it at last comes true,
As if someone or something great ordained it just for you.
So if you have a dream, just close your eyes,
But make no wish against your enemy, whom you might despise,
Just for one moment think of what you really want or where you long to go,
Don’t be afraid, be firmly brave, for wishing can always make it so.
----------------------------------
(As a boy I used to stand on our bridge and watch the fishermen below. I always wanted to do the same. About thirty years later as I stood in the river fishing, I looked up and saw a boy doing exactly what I used to do. My wish had come true. Great memory)......................

My greatest memories are running around without a care in the world. Having so much fun with my "now distant" cousins and just being a kid.

It was the time I was 5 years old and my sister was 8. It was Halloween and we went to this haunted house, we stepped up onto the steps to receive our candy and there was this scarecrow all limped over lifeless but, the truth of the matter was it was a real person just acting. It became live and jumped at us! We screamed and dropped our buckets crying to my mother, she laughed so hard, she couldn't stop and she remembers it till this day!
