Thanks to most people who gave genuine good advice. To those who think i should wait until pregnant until i think of these things. Sod you. I like to plan and know whats safe, i think im being sensible with this way of thinking. Its not like you are going to know until some weeks have gone by if you are pregnant so i want to take some precautions with medicines now. I will take advise from my doctor next time to be absolutely sure. Forewarned is forearmed.

You can take calcium carbonate medicines like Rennie, they should be fine. One of the pharmacists I worked with was taking them all the time when she was pregnant. For painkillers you will have to see a pharmacist or a doctor if you want anything stronger than paracetamol.

You can take Rennie's no problem although they are a bit "old fashioned" and there are better products to take. Gaviscon... yes I know its not nice to take! When I was pregnant with the twins I found Gaviscon very difficult to take it was soooo YUCK! I have to say I tried the Gaviscon advance liquid was much easier to swallow and it tasted better than the regular one. If you really can't stomach the thought of the liquid they do Gaviscon in chewable tables (lemon or peppermint flavour)

As for pain relief paracetamol is fine. For morning sickness I used the travel sickness wrist bands which worked a treat. Don't forget to start taking your folic acid now before you become pregnant. You can either take it on its own as a single tablet or get something like Pregnacare which is a multi vitamin. It contains the folic acid along with all the other vitamins a woman needs for before conception, when pregnant right through to breast feeding.

Remember when you do get pregnant if in any doubt about medicines just ask your doctor or midwife. Don't forget you can even just pop into your local pharmacy and get advice there!

You cant take asprin while pregnant unless your perscibed it due to blood pressure problems. The only thing they dont mind you taking is paracetamol. If you need something stronger talk to your doctor as they will be able to help you weigh up the pro's and cons. There are some painkillers that you can take later in pregnancy and be fine, but that you shouldnt take in early stages of pregancy. Rennies are fine i think but double check with ur midwife or dr.

Rule of thumb - don't take anything without double checking with your midwife or doctor first. Better to be safe than sorry.

Regarding Rennies - they're probably fine, but indigestion doesn't usually happen until later on in the pregnancy once the baby starts getting quite big. Gaviscon is quite disgusting, but heartburn is even worse. I used to gulp it like water!

I bought tumms or tums (sp) from a local supermarket and they did the trick. They have a pregnant drawing on the outer covering and the pack tells how many youcan chew in a day. Paracetamol is safe but I try to avoid medication while pregnant unless I have to.

I took prescription zantac before I got pregnant but stopped when I found out I was - Rennies, Tums, Gaviscon were the only things the doctor told me to take.....The only pain killers they recommend are paracetamol too (which are a waste of time!!)

I found I didn't get as much heartburn/acid while I was pregnant because I wasn't drinking as much coffee..........

Good Luck xx

You should never use soap down on your vagina anyway! unless it is a PH balanced soap like dove or special lady cleaning soap. This can cause irritation and cause the bad smell that you say is there. Stop using soap and just use water for a while and hopefully it should clear up. If it doesn't then you should see your doctor and ask him to do a test. Hope everything goes ok

I took prevacid for my acid reflux & heartburn through both of my pregnancies. Prescribed by my OB. No problems. I know that Tylenol is about the only safe painkiller during pregnancy. My friend was prescribed Loratabs during her pregnancy for a pinched nerve, but I don't think that is recommended unless really needed. FYI: I also took Celexa during both pregnancies for anxiety. Also prescribed by my OB.

Read the label - that should tell you - if not ask your GP or Midwife either before or as soon as you find out you're pregnant. Don't trust something that important to a bunch of weirdo's on the net!
