I don't want to be a quitter and if I work really hard, i might have a slight chance of changing the coach's mind. What should I do?

Pretend like you never saw it. Ask your coach for some advice on what you need to work on. And then bust your butt to improve whatever it is. You may be jumping to conclusions and assuming that your going to be dropped, you could be wrong. Regardless if you want to be on the team bad enough, you need to show your coach that you have passion and drive to be the best. Don't give up.

Failure is better than quitting. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school team and is regarded as the best the sport has ever seen. Use that as motivation and try to figure out where you went wrong. Turn your weaknesses into strengths and upgrade your strengths. Talk to the coach and ask why you were cut. If he doesn't give you a straight answer or tries to act like a jackass when he tells you, don't let it get you down. I'm in college, didn't make the team, and I've beaten every person on the team 1 on 1/ half & full court. I'll just keep trying elsewhere. An athlete's greatest assets are his heart & mind, don't let what others say get you in those areas. If so, then you'll surely fail.

No. Never quit...even if you don't make the team it's a good experience. You can keep working on your game.

Also, sometimes when you don't make the team they might ask you to be an assistant coach, or scorekeeper, or statistician or something else, and then if there's an injury to another player they can call you up...

You can quit if you want to. It depends on how bad you want to play.

Me, I'd make the coach cut me. I wouldn't want to make it easy on him.
