Or does it start once you register with the NCAA clearinghouse? I know that you have 5 years to complete the 4 years. But can I get my bachelor's, then register with the clearinghouse and play 4 years of sports when I go to graduate school.

You have four years of eligibility in any sport, and can take as long as you want to play those four years. I don't know about other sports, but football uses redshirting, basically making a player part of the practice squad, but not actually putting them on the roster. This gives them the benifit of getting the hardcore training, without losing eligibility. Most football players only go to 5th year senior, because the majority of them plan on going to the NFL.

the 4 years do not have to be successive if i remember right. if it did then players wouldn't be able to leave school or not go at all and then come back in 2 or 3 years and get 4 years back. Same goes for students that take off a year from school or just do not play for a year;they still hold on to their eligibility.

you should be pink-shirted. You get a twelve months of school, besides the indisputable fact that it does not count variety in direction of your years of elgibility. i think of while you're making the team, and you're no longer being redshirted, the years of elgibility will start to count number.
