If you're going to say that the good old days are now, you're not welcome here because they aren't. This whole year (September 2005 onwards) has been crap.

The 'Good Old Days' were from 2000 - mid-2003, February 2004 - August 2005. Well they were for me anyway. I miss the good old days of Catrina Heeney, Our Good Friend Eileen (Whose real name is Patrina McCaughey, Leona mcClenaghan, Series 4 of Footballers' Wives, The Idiots, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Muck Mountain, Pokémon etc.

I would agree with many above, interesting that the past year, since sept 2005 has been complete crap for me, too. I have several friends for whom that's also true. Planets out of alignment? Who knows.
But to argue the other side, good is all a question of which perspective of life you chose to look at.

The Good Old Days went down the drain with other fashions, such as; holding the door for a lady, getting up to let a lady sit down, respecting you elders, helping the poor, waiting your turn, keeping quiet in the library and the worst of all society ills, learning the meaning of NO.

As soon as Generation X started to reach adulthood, an evil turn occurred. The need to respect others caused eyes to roll, brows to furl and voices to whine.

Nowadays, many younger people feel it is more important to please themselves, take an easy road, cut corners and "flip" everyone else off that gets in the way.

I weep for the future...

Well this year may have been crap for you, but it's not been too bad for me.

Anyway, think of all those people who say the war years were the 'best years of their life' I bet they didn't think that at the time, and their parents were probably saying 'it wasn't like this in my day ...'

And so, when you're about 75, you'll probably look back on 2006 and say, 'Those were the good old days!!'

Good Old Days is a cliché which refers to an idealized lifestyle in a mythological rural United States of America. But.. OH how I miss them.. never to see them again.. gone forever

To me the good old days were 1970's, bring back my childhood. nothing bad seemed to happen cause you were a kid. Having said that, when I went across M62 saddleworth Moors, a cold shiver went down my back, and I thought of all those poor helpless kids that died there. Makes you think...!

FDR's theme song was "Happy Days Are Here Again". Maybe we'll get a president like that and society as well as politics will change a bit.

Leonard Sachs retired and died.

(Only Brits of a certain age and strong memories will know what I'm talking about!)

The good old days are well and truly gone now, too much has gone on to stop them coming back.

it's a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than its worth.
