Societies seem to become more empathetic as time passes.

Bush and Co. have made the business of war acceptable again. Give the troops some Iraqi artifacts, some quick cash, and an Iraqi woman (or man!) to rape in the Green Zone brothel or a fellow female troop and they seem to be just as happy as the days of the Crusades where war was seen as a business as much as it is now. All of which seems to take a step backward as far as the advancement of values is concerned.

I am not a democrat, sorry that you wasted so much time with your mistaken rant. I am a Socialist. You are a black and white thinker, a typical Republican, living is easy with eyes closed misunderstanding all you see...

Wow, I concur. Thats a really good way of comparing the past and the present. Its so sad, though. Its as if american democratic morals are de-evolving. The only difference is that the Crusades were a religious affair, while we don't exactly know why America is fighting a war in Iraq. I mean come on! You've already got their president, they don't have any more nuks, and the people are at the verge of a religious civil war!

Its an interesting question to posit. I am of the same opinion you are that Bush, and his compatriots are contributing to our moral regress. Anytime preemptive action is taken against a people, without truly deliberating whether such action serves the best interests of national security, you are cheapening the value of human life. Any act of violence taken against ones fellow man must only be undertaken when all other peaceable options are exhausted. To cavalierly dismiss these non-belligerent alternatives, as was done in our resolution to assault Iraq, is to reduce human life to a triviality; a virtual inconvenience that can be wiped clean at ones whim.

The irony of Bush’s administration engendering moral decline is that they, compared to past administrations, have touted faith and religious values more than anyone. I find that the more one talks about morality, and the more one positions oneself in judgment over other’s moral shortcomings, the more likely that they are to be secretly depraved themselves. The greatest thugs are the ones that speak the loudest about God. The most pernicious warmongers are the ones who wax philosophical about peace and compassion. The ones who deride terrorists the most are the guiltiest of committing terrorist atrocities themselves.

My only hope is that we will have regressed so much in our moral integrity that we will respond to our own descent with a reactionary move in the other direction. Hopefully our disgust with our own immoral visage will compel us to do the right thing. Its time we supplant what is profitable with what is ethical.

what should we do?? leave the Iraqi government to fall apart, and let some bad ruler come to power that will be just like the one we took down. Or maybe you would like another even like 9/11 to happen.

Your party has killed 30 million unborn babies since 1971, promoted marriage between homosexuals, allowed Muslim countries to keep their women as slaves with no rights(while praising them for their diverse culture), allowed illegal immigrants to swamp our economy and health care system. Liberals have promoted a lifestyle of staying at home while pumping out illegitimate kids on welfare that hard working people fund. Think about it before saying empty statements with no proof or support.

What is "internal choice" stupid?

I hate arguing with guys like the one below me(and any liberal for that matter) because they are never as smart as I am.

Democrats stopped bigotry? Do some research and find who the first president to appoint a black secretary of state was. And, look who appointed Thomas to the supreme court. You take credit for something that we all did as a society.
