He's a big guy. Stop trying to care of him as well as you. Look out for your own interests.

Tell him that car pooling is not convenient for you and that is that. Is he paying your rent? My guess is no - so why do you owe him any kind of an explanation? Refer him to a rideshare board.

get your own way to work...or ride with someone else for a while....or don't be around this person so they can pester you.....if you don't want to do something "just say no". Maybe he wants money from an additional rider, maybe you know someone who wants to ride with him to help him out.

You know, they say that sometimes people hang around someone because they think they can learn something from them. I can't remember the exact phrase but in colleges here they teach you not to hang with people who don't challenge your thinking, but choose those you can learn from. Maybe that's what he's trying to do.....or, he wants an evening partier....either way....you're not happy with this situation, so just tell him that. Hopefully you'll not need a ride in the future or you may be burning your bridge. Make other friends.

Sounds like you are going to have to be direct and honest. Such as "I would really like to be able to help you out, but it is not working out for me, I am sure you understand." and then drop it. If he brings it up again simply say, "I have made my decision, I wish you the best, but I cannot help you anymore." Peace

IF REALLY WANT TO BE NICE ABOUT IT...YOU CAN JUST SAY....
CARPOOLING IS NOT GOING TO WORK BECAUSE:

1. SOMETIMES I HAVE PLANS AFTER WORK.
2. THINGS TO DO BEFORE WORK.
3. SOMETIMES I SLEEP OVER A FRIENDS/PARENTS/SIBLING/BF.

THEN IF HE DOESN'T GET IT....ODDS ARE HE WON'T. YOU CAN SAY:

1. CARPOOLING IS JUST NOT FOR ME. SORRY -WALK AWAY AND DON'T LOOK BACK CAUSE THAT IS WHEN HE WILL TRY TO MAKE YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND.

2. CARPOOLING IS JUST INCONVENIENT FOR ME. AGAIN - WALK AWAY!!
