take the test two weeks after a missed period that way u give your self time just in case u were just late because of stress and/or diet. and once u find out ur pregnant make an appointment with your doctor and he or she will examine u and then schedule an ultra sound for u whenever it fits ur schedule and when you're far enough in your pregnancy that u can actually see something on the monitor. (after ur 1st trimester u can hear the heart beat but you cant really see anything) ^_^

Most home pregnancy tests work the day you miss your period however there are some that are out you can use up to 5 days before you miss your period. Many pregnancies go with out ever doing an ultrasound but routinely they are done around 20 weeks to check the growth of the child.
