Well, you can't really get involved in their private business, however, you are entitlet to your opinions. You could tell him that because there's a fundamental difference between him and you on this subject you are not that keen on the friendship anymore.
It may not change his mind (men who hit women once will hit them again) but at least he knows that you are not behind him anymore. And if you snap up his girlfriend then at least he hasn't lost her to his friend...sounds like you are a much better guy for this woman

A man who hits a woman is the weakest of all. He is hitting someone he knows full well cannot put up an equal fight.... he has taken advantage of a weaker opponant and obviously shows no remorse for his actions, so is likely to do it again. If a dog bit a child it would be put down. In the same context this man should be prosecuted. Make sure your friend takes photographs of her injuries and takes this evidence to the police. If not, get someone bigger and stonger than him to kick his sorry ***. Touche!

Ive been in a similar situation, although he didnt hit her, he threw her into a wall (hard). My roommate was seeing this guy and I heard them arguing outside on the patio. then I heard this loud "thud" noise, and she screamed; "dont hit me, dont hurt me". I ran outside, and yelled the hell out of him, told him to leave and told him he was not welcome here anymore. he ran away like the coward he was.
Well now they're married, he supposedly changed, but I guess I do believe ppl. change for the better sometimes.
Dont do anything, be there for your friend. and tell her that he isnt right for her. If she leaves him for good, then you got your revenge by coaxing her to leave him, and possibly taking away the best girlfriend hes ever had. If she continues to be with him, then you should be better off knowing that you tried and that you realize that it takes two people (your friend and her man) to cause a corrupt, unhealthy relationship that you have taken a personal lesson from.

This is awful my best advice to the girl is to just get out of the situation now he has hit her once oh it will be the big sorries & I will never do it again until the next time. Now he has lashed out once it just gets easier to do again & again it's abuse & it is not acceptable. Drunk or bored excuses no reason at all to strike his girlfriend. For you his friend don't you go & get punchy too what good will that do? NONE. For now sleep on it when in doubt do nowt.

I do not think you should hit him does that really make you any better than him? All violence is wrong. He has a problem and I am not sure I would want him as a friend if he treats women like that, encourage him to get help and if he will not drop him.
I think you also need help because it has .made you so angry! Is your anger too much for the situation.

Your best friend is a w****r of the highest order so i'd re-evaluate that friendship. Hard to be friends with someone you cant respect. Hitting him is pointless unless you want to lower yourself to his level. Besides he is already so disturbed your not likely to knock any sense into him. As for his girlfriend you should support her in leaving his sorry **** if she is ready to. If she isn't you have to accept that these things are out of your control. If your willing let her know that you'll be there for her if she needs you and encourage her to tell the police.

How many times do you think this bastard will get bored? SHE needs to leave him because I seriously doubt this wont happen again. There is no excuse and if the bastard is sooo bored tell him to hit a man? Or me for that matter. I will show him what and how I feel about men hitting on women "just because"

Watch closely. Don't get directly involved. Coach the girl and any future girls away from him after a repeat performance.
Tell him to get help after third time and call the authorities immediately after fourth.
Be very careful and vary -this can explode in your face very easily, but you don't want the load on your conscience that inaction will bring.

just calm the girl down..you should probably stay away from him for a while ..don't get too ticked even though its not rite... or maybe they should take a break in the relationship or stop things all together no one should just hall off and punch someone ... let yourself cool down then when you feel your ready go and talk to him about it but don't get too involved b/c it could end up badly

Your friend is a jerk and you should go and give him a taste of his own medicine. Maybe if he realizes how it feels to be beat on for no reason he won't do it again. Either way, you should advise his girlfriend to leave him for her own safety and you should also bid him farewell as a friend - unless you think you can put up with him abusing women.
