I'm a server and when someone is allergic, I make it a priority of mine that nothing happens to them. I let the kitchen know, I let the kitchen managers know and I also make a note on the check just to make sure. Sometimes mistakes do happen. Could be the server or the kitchen.
Just let them know right away. It's not a burden, a bother or an outrageous request. If you feel as though the server isn't taking you seriously ask for a manager. They can handle it from there.
Good luck!

Perhaps the servers are not taking you seriously b/c you use the word "rare" and "deadly" in your description to them. Simply tell the server that you have a severe allergy to tomatoes and any tomato products, including ketchup, and that you cannot have any foods with tomatoes in it or in contact with tomatoes. If the server smirks, say "the expression on your face makes me feel like you are not taking this seriously ... can you please ask your manager to come to the table." Hope this helps!

It's really hard when people have food allergies. People will come into the restaurant that I work at (seafood restaurant) and they are allergic to seafood and then get mad when we can't promise them that their food isn't touched by any kind of seafood, so I guess that's what I'm getting at. No matter how much you stress it to them, there is no way to promise that your food will be free from tomatoes, even if your food just touches one. I always get a manager when dealing with food allergies, so ask your server to speak with the manager, because the manager will be able to talk to the cooks and let them know of your allergy so everyone will be more careful.

Next time you go out you should talk to the manager or owner of the restaurant before ordering. They should understand a little better. Then they could make sure that no tomatoes end up near you. It's kind of hard to garuntee that though, because I work at an upscale place where that s*** would never happen. Our customers would rip our heads off.

I would suggest that when you go out to eat after you order tell the server no tomato anywhere near your plate as you are highly allergic to them. and if you find that there has been tomato anywhere near your food ask the server to get you something else or to replace the order that you just ordered... i am a cook at a restraunt and it isn't the servers fault at all...it is the cook who needs to remember... also make sure the server has written it down on the ticket NO TOMATOES ANYWHERE....hope that helps....

Make sure the server has actually written it down on the ticket. If there's anything that even resembles a tomato on your plate, ask for the ticket and then ask for a manager.

Next time, grab a tomato from a passing plate, and smear it all over your face. When you puff up and can barely talk, say:
THEE??? I tode you tho!
