I use all white bath towels, and when they start to look dingy, I soak them in the washer with a half a cup of bleach and warm water for about 2 or 3 hours. I have some kitchen towels that are white, but they have a pattern on them. I always throw them in with the white towels and bleach when I do a regular wash, but do you think it'd be okay if I put them in to soak? I don't want the pattern to bleach out. I know it might lighten the pattern, but will it ruin it or leave bleach spots?

You just reminded me I was planning on bleaching my whites today, thanks! I use a cup of bleach and hot water. I get it all mixed together before adding all the towels so there will be no bleach spots. Just nice white, fluffy towels, patterned or plain. No diff. White and clean is best.

Use a safe color bleach to soak your colored towels, this will make sure that your pattern will not fade. You should also try to use Oxy-Clean or 20 Mule Borax. They will boost your laundry soap.

It would probably effect the pattern but who cares. Clean fresh kitchen towels are better than nasty ones with a cool pattern. Take it from me: a laundry freak!

only a 1/2 cup of bleach - i doubt it seriously. especially if they've been washed a few times first.

Use a detergent with a color-safe bleach on them every washing and you might never have to go through all that.

putting most clothes in bleach (in fact fabrics don't like bleach much) weakens the fiber and degrades the cloth mush faster.. try using those non bleaching cleaners...
