Is it illegal to go around the neighborhood and get people's adresses to do mail outs for my own little business?

Most telephone books have a reverse directory, this might be easier to use, save time and not have anyone get suspicious at why you are checking out their mailboxes.

Of course not. But it would probably be a lot less legwork to just use the phone book.

If you go to your city council, you should be able to get a list of everyone's addresses in your area. You may have to pay a fee.

I can't imagine what would be wrong with jotting down house numbers.
