$7.95 and $10.45
18.40 - 2.50= 15.90 / 2 = 7.95
7.95 + 2.50 = 10.45
7.95 + 10.45 = 18.40

use intergers c and s to substitute.
Chicken is 2.50 more than spaghetti.
C = S + 2.50
and if Chicken and spaghetti together cost 18.40 then
S + C = 18.40
Take the first equation, if C = S + 2.50, then:
S + (S+2.50) = 18.40
Sove for S to find the cost of the Spaghetti
2S + 2.50 = 18.40
2S = 15.90
S = 7.95
Plug in S to find Chicken
S + C = 18.40
7.95 + C = 18.40
S = 10.45

Chicken dinner cost $10.45, spaghetti dinner is $7.95. Just divide $18.40 by 2, then subtract $1.25 from one answer and add $1.25 to the other.

Spaghetti costs x.
Chicken costs x+2.50
x+(x+2.50)=18.40
2x+2.50=18.40
2x=15.90
x=7.95
Spaghetti costs 7.95
Chicken costs 10.45
