well... it's getting rid of one manufacturing job that pays $20 an hour to send them to china, then creating two jobs at a local Wal-Mart that pays $8 an hour...

I see a problem there... do you?

and just saying "get an education" is a naive copout... you may as well say "let them eat cake"...

How many times have you heard this? It is not how much you make but how much you keep. Obama plans to raise the minimum wage to try to get more votes. Raising the minimum wage will also raise inflation and devalue an already unstable dollar even more. So, even though the minimum is higher the cost of goods will also be higher and people will be even worse off than if he had never raised it. We are talking about nominal income here and it is said that Democrats always tout that same crap that keep people in the same mess they are in. It is true more jobs will go overseas and employers will cut other benefits as well... Obama wants to force employers to offer better benefits and make them increase the minimum wage and pay higher taxes. Obama is a fool and anyone who votes for him must not be paying attention to what he says.

Some economists say it's Junior's version of voodoo economics. The numbers are cooked a little, analysis sections omit certain facts. Paul Krugman has written about this extensively. The real deal - the economy is not what they say it is, the rich-poor gap is larger than at any time since WWII, many families are barely surviving on 2 incomes.

Jobs are out there - but what's this "living wage" crap?

You think because you can master the turn of phrase "Do you want fries with that?" you should be guarunteed a 4 bedroom home, 2 car garage, an SUV and a Sports Car?

Get an education - loans, grants, scholarships, financial aid abounds. No reason you can't.

Work hard and stop whining. Spend less energy complaining about how the mindless job you have pays squat and spend more time targeting the job you want - then go for it!

$8 an hour is $16,000 a year full time. If you're single and can't live on that, you won't be able to live on more - expenses expand to consume income for 99.9% of the population.

Progressive programs generally fail and welfare is no exception. You give a considerable amount of money to people with NO education and NO job skills. The vast majority of welfare recipients stay on it forever and pump out several bastard children who rob and steal and destroy nice neighborhood across town. If you try hard, get an education and conform with mainstream societies culture, then you can get a job and work your way up. Your question isn't very clear... What are you saying exactly?

Don't give up. I believe the US economy is strong, but it's hard to believe that there is only 5% unemployment. I must know all 5%!

Check your state's employment statistics. A lot of industries have changed and other opportunities have become available. Verse yourself in areas that you'd be interested in and go for it. Don't stop until you're in. Maybe you'll need to brush up on some skills or training before hand, but it will be well worth your efforts.

Most of all, be a good employee who is willing to work hard. Don't just say it, live it. You'd be surprised how many employers are looking for just that. Good luck.

Life of royalty? The average monthly welfare payment for a family of four is $550, and they can only be on it for 24 months.

The minimum wage hasn't been raised in ten years, while the price of everything else has.

Education is the silver bullet; higher-paying jobs go to higher educated people.

I guess it depends on what one calls a reasonable living wage. I have been under-employed since 2000. I know others who have had equally hard times.
