I have the 9th pick in a 12 man league with 16 rounds. starting 1 QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1K, 1D. With the ninth pick should I pick up Payton Manning in the first round and then a RB in the 2nd round. Or should I just take 2 RB as my first 2 picks and hope to get a good QB this year, good RB's are slim pickins. Who's a good back to get at the 9th pick in the first round if available.

No - don't always take a RB. Don't listen to that nonesense.

Look, it first depends on your point system. If TD's are equal for passing TD and rushing TD (which in some leagues they are) then go for the QB. It's better to have 1 star then an entire team of garbage. Look, I am in a 12 man Dynasty league and I picked 8th. By the 4 round there where still RB's around. There are only 3 top RB's - Alexander, Tomilson, and KC's guy. You are not going to get any of them. Also - RB's get injured a lot more then QB's! So late rounds take strong running teams backups. Example - Carolina - Take D Angelo WIlliams. By mid season he will start because Foster wil take an injury. Travis Henry will be taking over for Crystal I mean Chris Brown.

There are only 3 consistent top QB's. Brady (Yeah - who would have thought) Palmer and Manning. Point wise, you will be better off during the season having your top QB. You may even change the course of the draft by taking the best QB. Someone else might panic.

Now, here is a trick - keep track of all starting RB's. Also - keep track of their "BYE" weeks - Very important!. Then if the pace changes any by your second pick (like some fool take Reggie Bush in the first round) - take the TOP WR (Steve Smith) or match him with your TOP QB - example - Johnson & Palmer, Harrison & Manning. If your team does good - you double score.

They are now getting in their second round pick an average RB and you have 2 top performers who will play every week barring any injury.

Oh - and I play 5 pay leagues a year for the past 5 years. 25 total - 8 championships wins, 10 second place, plus 8 playoffs. Don't fall for the hype of RB and good luck.

Go RB/RB wtih the first two picks. In a 12 team league, by the time it gets back to you in round three (33rd pick), there won't be any starting RBs left. Good QBs can be found as late as the 5th or 6th round.

I would try to go RB RB. There are not that many good RB's and QB's can be had later in the draft. I would target guys like Ronnie Brown, Jordan, or Rudi Johnson with the 9th pick. And in the 2nd round go for a guy like McGahee. good luck!
