No. He had to admit they existed. He needs to do something to get people's mind off the iraq debacle before elction day. Admitting the secret prisons exist is OK because that plays to the ultraconservatives who think he's too liberal. Plus moderates will like the information he getting out of the enemy combatants in addition to captured materminds, a few "number 2" operatives and a couple of stray radicals.

Plus I don't think anyone is surprised they existed. It's almost common knowledge, the French diod a good job tracking the secret flights and listing their destinations. These "secret" location have been published in French newspapers.

The liberals won't like it but they aren't going to vote republican so they don't matter anyway. Its about votes, not being liked by everyone (just by enough to win).

Actually he never denied they existed, he just stated that the US was complying with international laws. I was extremely shocked that the existence of the CIA prisons was admitted, it is not something I expected without an investigation. Question is what happens now?

No. It's all part of the climate of fear that Bush wants to instil in the minds of US citizens. If you do bad and you don't fit in then you get disappeared. It's like the gulag mentality, but for "democracy" and the 21st century.

If Bush didn't want you to be scared, why would he insist that terrorists could attack at any time, and constantly remind us that we're at war - despite the fact that there have been NO terrorist attacks on US soil since 9/11? Forget all those that "might" have happened, the truth is that if terrorists really did want to attack the US then nothing is going to stop them. If there was a huge and sophisticated terrorist network then they could easily bypass airport security - in exactly the same way that drug runners and gangsters have for years. They're not stupid.

Being scared is the precursor to removing rights and freedoms - something no right wing government is interested in - especially as far right as the neocons are.

I'm not surprised they had them. I am surprised he admitted to it. I guess he had to though. By admitting to existence of the prisons he is just saving face. They media was soon to release plenty of evidence of these prisons and he didn't want to look like more of a liar than he already is.

Surprised - No.

Simple diversion to get us away from other matters about his global theft and misuse of power.

Now the talking heads will say he was so honest and that by admitting there were prisons clearly shows the prisons were never torture cells. Pure bull. The real shenanigans and miscreant behavior of this fascistic regime that usurped the presidency illegally will never see the light of day as long as we live.

Sad truth.

Is there a problem with secret prisons? And if we know about them, they aren't really a secret anymore are they? Just another way the liberal media won't allow us to fight this war as we should - they need to stay out of the "secret" aspects - it would be better for us all.

I'm not surprised.

He also admitted that we wentto Iraq on bad intelligence. It's his
passive/agressive way of flaunting his incompetence and getting away with it.

What I don't get is HOW the mas media gets away/is continued to be thought of as credible when they CONTINUALLY overlook his lies by NOT pointing OUT his lies. It is amazing that people don't just turn off their Televisions.
