Turtles do hibernate...however if they are inside, they probably won't since it's warm and they're getting fed.

Turtle do hibernate, but in an indoor enviroment they don't naturally hibernate. I have heard of some people placing them in the frig for a few months. TurtleTalk has some great discussion online about hibernation.

Diamondback terrapins?

This is an interesting species. Like most turtles from temperate zones, they usually hibernate in the winter- but this is a tricky thing for us to duplicate.

some people say that since the turtle is kept inside that it doesn't need to hibernate (I raise tortoises) I think they still need to do what they are supposed to do, are they outside? If inside, give them material to bury in, and try to move them to an unheated room, ie basement or garage, check on them to make sure they are sleeping then leave them alone until spring, if they don't go to sleep then I would move them back inside

Yes in the wild they do. But if your keeping it as a pet its NOT necessary, as long as you keep their tank at a nice temperature then tey probably wont go into hibernation. If you do decide to let them hibernate, do oyur research, they can die if they get too cold.
