I prefer to use unscented laundry detergent (All) and use about 1/3 of the recommended amount. Any more soap than that and the soap never comes out. For clothes that are sweaty, add about a cup or 2 of white vineager. It gets rid of sweaty smells. Baking soda can also be added to neutralize odors. And like someone else said, make sure your clothes are dried enough. And if it has been a couple of months since you wore some item of clothing, check it to make sure it is not getting musty. Musty smells like that get worse the longer you wear the clothing. Good luck w/ that.

It sounds like there may be dust in the closet, or possibly the closet is getting a bit musty. You can go to the store & look in the laundry detergent area for Damp-rid. The Febreeze is a good idea, but short termed. Spray the clothes & let them hang outside the closet for a few minutes while you do whatever you need to before putting the clothes on. If you spray cologne on the clothes, you take a chance of stains. If you want to use it in the closet, put cologne on a cotton ball & tuck it into the corner of the closet.

You should use a good detergent that smells good, and says it will keep a fresh clean. I would try to use a laundry booster as well such as oxy-clean and 20 mule borax. Use bounce dryer sheets they seem to work the best on keeping fresh.

The side of a bottle of ammonia says it is good for freshening blankets and sheets, so maybe it will work for your application.
Also, the laundry section of the supermarket often has detergents or laundry aids that disinfect; I think Lysol makes one.

I use Arm and Hammer laundry detergent. I also add a little OxiClean depending on how dirty the laundry.

You could try putting dryer sheets in your drawers, but make sure it's not the cheap ones, I tried that, they don't last long.....nor do they help in the dryer.

Your clothes are not the problem. You are the one who need to step up the hygiene a bit. Shower every morning using deodorant soap or body wash. Apply an antiperspirant under your arms. And an all over body deodorant spray or talc will keep you fresher. Wear an undershirt under your shirts.
